Grantchester : Season 5 Episode 2
The story was decent as well. I liked the Graham brothers and the murder mystery. The episode was just better all around. It scores an 8 out of 10. Previous recaps of Grantchester can be found on Reel Mockery!

Historically, a new series of Grantchester has always been accompanied by almost universal excitement. After the last season and the changing of the vicars, however, I suspect there will be more mixed feelings about the upcoming Season 5. Personally, I'm excited to see how the series continues now that new vicar Will Davenport has had a chance to get settled into the role. It's no longer about the departure of Sidney Chambers, and we can start to focus on the new normal for more than just a couple of episodes.
It's spring ball season, and when a student from a prestigious all-female college is found murdered, Geordie and Will dive into the world of university societies and on-campus politics. Not far behind them is attractive investigative journalist Ellie Harding, who could just as easily be a help as a hindrance.
After everything that's changed, are you still on board for more episodes? We're cautiously optimistic and looking forward to how writer Daisy Coulam and her team handle the challenges of moving forward with a new vicar.
I was cautiously optimistic about this first full season with Tom Brittney as the leading vicar. I personally thought that season 4 was a bit muddled with the hand-off, but I saw potential with the cast chemistry. It looks like I had reason to be optimistic. Will Davenport finally feels like a completely separate character from Sidney Chambers and not just a dollar-store knock-off.
But are they on the right track? On the surface, one looks like the bully and the other the victim. However, upon further investigation, Geordie and Will learn the brother is not a bully but a mediator. He keeps John's episodes and temper tantrums under control and he loves his brother dearly. The episode revolves around this crime but the more interesting plot point turns out to be how Leonard comes to the decision that what Mrs C doesn't know, doesn't hurt her.
Geordie and Cathy's home is also turning into a source of conflict as Cathy's mother pervades through their lives. She takes over the home completely and while Geordie enjoys the fact that someone is taking care of him, Cathy is under pressure. This pressure of being a let down for her mother, that fact that her work does not matter to the man she married or her mother is going to push Geordie and Cathy apart. More of how their relationship unravels is something that we will see in the upcoming episode. 041b061a72
